‘Six billion burgers’: Farmers reveal cost of beef tariff

Business and Australian farmers have warned six billion American hamburgers a year will be more expensive amid their disappointment in US President Donald Trump’s 10 per cent tariffs on Australian exports.

The wide-ranging tariffs of a minimum 10 per cent on every country — much higher in some cases — send an “ominous signal” about what is looming domestically and for the global economy, Australia Industry Group chief executive Innes Willox warned.

The announcement was “disappointing, but not unexpected, as we deal with an American administration hellbent on remaking the international economic order,” he said.
