Cottesloe locals concerned over plans for rooftop sauna

Local residents will get their say on plans to install a sauna on a vacant Cottesloe beachfront rooftop, amid concerns about its affect on an iconic piece of coastline.

The council will run a community consultation process for the proposed project for the flat rooftop of the North Cottesloe surf club on Marine Parade, which is a popular spot for beachgoers to enjoy a rest or a refreshment from the local cafes.

The consultation will run before council makes a decision on the surf club’s application to sub-lease the patch of prime real estate for the project.

The Western Australian Planning Commission must also approval a sauna development for the location.

The club’s roof area is a substantial concrete slab that has remained vacant for several years.
